1978, Salento. In the small town of Castrignano del Capo, in the setting of the events of the assassination of the Honorable Aldo Moro by the Red Brigades, the showman Ippazio Sacripante fights against his schizophrenia that induces him to hallucinate states of violence and blood.
Ippazio’s family, a family of farmers who unload the frustrations of a disastrous socio-economic situation on their son, tries at all costs to commit him to a mental asylum.
Ippazio, in the grip of mistreatment and loneliness, finds a way out in the search for love through the acquaintance of two women: Angelina, the grocery store clerk, and Filomena, a mysterious woman who dresses in black and has a moth on her cheek.
But, while the meetings with Angelina, a simple, clear and transparent woman, take place during the day, the meetings with Filomena, an introverted, dark and mysterious woman, take place in the middle of the night.
Thus, Ippazio gives them the name of White Angel and Black Angel. Ippazio, now close to madness, thanks to the investigations of the psychologist Trifone De Santis and the priest Don Gino Castriota, will discover who Filomena really is and, consequently, the cause of her hallucinations, a past that is nothing short of terrifying and that hides, behind the face of a close person, the soul of the Devil.
